He Can Be Trusted.

We all know the verse, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5) But what does it actually mean? How does that play out when we are faced with the issues of life?

The Meaning of Trust
Trust is mentioned 147 times in the Bible. If it's mentioned that many times, don't you think it might be pretty important?

Really trusting someone entails yielding and surrendering.

If someone says, "I trust you to catch me," the person catching must be trustworthy. You wouldn't say to a river, "Could you hold me up when I fall into you?" because that river is not a trustworthy source. It will let you fall into the water. The river has violated its trustworthiness.

Likewise, we must really know and understand God before we trust Him.

I encourage you to dig deep into your Bible to read and find out who God is. Learn His character; learn how He loves His children. Educate yourself of how good, gracious, and just He is. Jesus paid for our sins in full so that we can have a right relationship with God! Remember how He will never leave His children nor forsake them. My desire for this blog is for you to grow closer to your Creator!

What the Bible Says about Trust

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

If we're not trusting God, who then are we trusting? We are trusting in ourselves, our abilities, our understanding, our intellect, or our talents.

Psalm 9:10

And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

In Psalm 9:10, like I mentioned before, God will never leave His children. He is always with us.

This verse also hits on the topic of trust. Putting our trust in God, we yield our way of doing things to His. We surrender to His plan -- view it as better and worthy of our trust.

A Real-Life Example: Misplaced Trust

Many times, I will trust in myself without realizing it. For example, sometimes as I take tests in school, I rest on my understanding of the chapter more than I trust that God is doing a good work in me whether I pass or fail. That His character does not depend on circumstances. That my character or identity does not rest on my performance.

"His Character does not depend on circumstances. My Identity does not rest on my performance."

In those moments, I must take a step back, acknowledge my sin, and say, "God, I rely on myself too much. Would you forgive me from lack of trust in You and help me to continue trusting you with my life? I need you more than I realize. I need you and your grace to continue my day. Help me see how much I trust in myself and how great I really need to rely on you through prayer and Scripture." And He does forgive!

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and

to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Sadly, as the days and months pass by, we tend to forget the lesson God is teaching us! After you ask for forgiveness, make a plan of action of how you will start trusting Him more. That is called repentance.

For example, it's time to take the chapter 2 test. Instead of going into that test cocky and confident that I've learned enough, practiced enough, and understand enough, I go into the test, saying, "God, this test is simply another opportunity to praise you. Help me to glorify you while I'm answering the questions. As I work hard, remind me that you are to be trusted more than my understanding."
I need this reminder every week, every day!

Trusting God Every Day

Trusting God should not be saved for "special occasions" like when a loved one passes or when you get a tough diagnosis.

It's an ongoing action that must be chosen every single day of your life.

Trust Him with your finances. Trust Him while you're single. Trust Him while you're married. Trust Him with your employment status. Trust Him with your career choice. Trust Him with your schooling. Trust Him with your sickness. Trust Him with your brokenness.

And I'm telling myself this too!

He. Can. Be. Trusted.

I would love for you to listen to this song
