"Wake up, Emily!" said 7-year-old Hope, excitedly. Emily barely opened her eyes ... just barely ... then immediately closed them again in sleepiness. "Hurry, Emily, it's 10 o'clock and Mama's appointment is at 11! Don't ya wanna find out if it's a boy or a girl?!"
Suddenly, Emily awoke, interested in this appointment. She quickly got dressed for the day and ate a bowl of cereal. There at the breakfast table sat Uncle Ken, Aunt Rosemary, 10-year-old Olivia, 10-year-old Emily, 7-year-old Hope, 4-year-old Julia, and 2-year-old Josh. Interested in today's events and wondering if Hope had the time right, Emily asked, "When is your doctor's appointment, Mama?"
"11 o'clock," replied Aunt Rosemary, smiling. "After that, we'll pick out baby clothes at a thrift store."
"We're gonna find out if our baby's a girl or a boy!" Uncle Ken added with extreme enthusiasm, strongly emphasizing the word "BOY" in his sentence.
"So, you hope it's a boy, Daddy?" asked Julia.
"Yes, Jules, you picked up on that, didn't you? We've already got three awesome girls, plus Olivia while she's here with us ... I think it's time the boy population out-grew the girl population!" her daddy replied with keen playfulness.
"What does 'population' mean?" wondered little Julia.
"Oh, it just counts how many people there are in the world."
As soon as Emily finished breakfast, she helped four-year-old Julia get dressed for the day. Olivia tagged along just to be with her cousins. Hope - on the other hand - helped Josh get dressed for the day. In this way, the older kids help and come alongside the younger kids.
Finally, the family all loaded up in the bus and headed to the doctor's office.
And then, the anticipated moment passed by them in a matter of seconds. The female nurse, who was officiating the ultrasound at the doctor's office, announced, "It's a boy!"
"Yay!"
"That's fantastic!"
Josh beamed with delight. "Boy baby!"

"How 'bout some cowboy boots?" Uncle Ken asked. "Every boy's gotta own a pair of those!"
The shopping spree at a local thrift store included purchasing cowboy boots, shorts, t-shirts, socks, etc.
"22 Outfits for a little under $10! Isn't that a great deal, honey?" Aunt Rosemary proclaimed, gladly.
